If you enjoy Greg Ladas' Providence Journal articles, you probably know he completed his first 5k race on Columbus Day, October 8, 2012.
Greg ran a race called the "WhoopieZ 5k." He ran the race on a wet and muddy cross country trail through the woods, tripped on a root and skinned his knee, but did not stop running until the end. He finished the race in 30 minutes, 40 seconds (last in his age group out of 6). The whoopie pie he ate after the race never tasted so great.
He thoroughly enjoyed the race, and encourages you to give a 5k a try. Next year, he'll better hydrate before the WhoopieZ race, and finish in less than 30 minutes (just before the other old dude that overtook him in the end this year).
